04/11/12 :: Do the Needful reviewed at Daykamp Music
Woke up this morning to see this review of Do the Needful over at Daykamp Music. What a great way to start the day!
Daykamp also posts a lot of great photography of local shows (including these shots of Phil playing solo last summer), and they've been capturing awesome moments of the 2012 Rock n' Roll Rumble. We're looking forward to more of their great work (and more great shows from the Rumble!)
04/07/12 :: Next show : Ralph's!
worcester, ma, we're coming for you
We are very excited for our next show at Ralph's Rock Diner in Worcester, MA, and we're also excited to share this show poster with you - designed by Aaron Spransy of the Fatal Flaw, it's a beaut! We're really looking forward to sharing a stage once again with the Susan Constant and the Fatal Flaw, and also new friends Satellites Fall. Should be a great night!
03/08/12 :: New video for "Coattails" released
watch your back, scorsese
Click on over to our videos page to check out our latest moving picture advertisement!
A little back story : Phil was reading this article in the New Yorker about a girl making her own fan videos for Wire (videos the band doesn't seem to appreciate, as it turns out), and it mentions Video Star, an iPhone/iPad app designed specifically for shooting music videos. A couple clicks on the iPhone, and BAM! five minutes later? New music video.
03/02/12 :: Performer Magazine reviews "Do the Needful"
Our new EP received a lovely writeup from the March issue of Performer Magazine. Here's a quote :
[...] Butterknife is reminding their fans and new listeners that deep down, there's more profundity and potential, even if it's under a pop-punk guise.
You can download a .pdf of the entire March issue here, and check out Performer Magazine's website for articles, playlists, and more.
02/28/12 :: Next show - Radio, March 15
like LL said, can't live without it
Hey there. How's it going? Good? Yeah, we're good too.
Just wanted to drop a line and say we're really excited about out next show. It's our debut at Radio, which is cause for celebration, but we're also playing on an excellent bill :
OTP : 12 am
Stereo Soul Future : 11pm
Butterknife : 10pm
Effzero : 9pm
We hope you'll join us for a fine night of rock n' roll. Also, it's cheap - $5! Now you have no excuse.
02/15/12 :: Do the Needful reviewed in the Ash Gray Proclamation Blog
declared ashen, gray
Plymouth, MA music blog The Ash Gray Proclamation published a review of Do the Needful on Monday. Here's a snippet :
Elsewhere "June 4", which serves as the EP's centerpiece, struck us right between the eyes and our love of 90's guitar pop bands, an excellent piece of songwriting filled with subtleties and intelligent lyrics.
Dudes, we will totally go to prom with you. Just ask.

02/14/12 :: Butterknife included in Boston Band Crush Valentine's Day Sampler
we give good lovin'
The C.D. on Songs column over at Boston Band Crush has released another Valentine's Day Sampler of local love songs, and we've contributed our song "coattails" from our recently released EP Do the Needful. Here's a snippet of what they had to say of our track :
We like when a song brings us someplace, and to do that, the song needs directions. Or a direction. “Coattails” aims straight ahead on electrified rails and pushes the throttle to a snappy yet cruising level. Articulate and energetic work on the drums drive this track more than anything.
Nice.
Check out the article and download the Valentine's Day Sampler here.
02/08/12 :: Angelica Music Interview
The lovely and talented Caitlin Sherlock from the Angelica Music blog took some great photos at our EP release, but had the horrible misfortune of speaking with Kieran and Phil before the show. Let's see what kind of indignities we subjected her to :
Congratulations on the EP! What is the first thing you did this morning?
Kieran Stone: I changed my daughter's diaper.
Phil Wisdom: Took the dog out to poop.
Oh jeez. To read the whole thing, head on over to Angelica Music.
